Smurfy

A peek into the type of weird conversations I have with my fiance:

Fiance: "I wonder what color a Smurf would turn if you strangled it."
Me: "Before or after it starts to rot?"
Fiance: "Before of course."
Me: "Are we assuming that it has a hemoglobin-based circulatory system?"
Fiance: "I hypothesize that Smurfs have an open circulatory system. Their round, ill-defined appendages suggest the pooling of a fluid I call 'smurfolymph' within."
Me: "In that case I don't think they'd change color until the smurfolymph began to oxidize."

Geek Bling

I showed my engagement ring to a senior scientist at the lab, and he said, "Wow! Follow me!"

He took me into the microscope room, where he examined the diamonds in my ring.

He was so excited by the chance to put something new under his microscope he didn't ask who I was engaged to, or when it happened. It was cute how he acted like a child during show-and-tell, and started asking other scientists into the room to "come look at this!"

Geek Throwdown

As an undergraduate I was standing in the office of the molecular biology department of my university when my phone rang. The ringtone was the Star Wars theme.

Someone behind me commented, "It's okay, we're all geeks here."

I turned around and said, "Yes, but you know what's really geeky is that I programmed this in myself."

Chubster Geek opened up his binder and showed me one of the pages. It was a scoresheet for Dungeons and Dragons.

I countered, "I hang out with people who dress like they're from D&D."

He said, "LARP?"

I said, "No, SCA."

In the end I think he won. He owned a t-shirt that said "Girls are no substitute for playstation."
